Y’s Men Community Service Committee January 12, 2017 Meeting Exec Summary follows:

In attendance: Jay Dirnberger, Sal Mollica, John Weiss, Bill Carmel, Chuck Greenlee, Norm Davis, Joe Hawley. Members include: Stan Baron, Marty Yellin, Maury Wind, Pete Wolgast.


We meet monthly to listen to you and discuss members volunteer ideas for Y's Men.

WHEN: 8AM the Second Thursday of each month: February 9, March 9, April 13, May 11.

WHERE: Saugatuck Church, Rooms 109-110

On - Going Projects

  1. NEW! ITN Coastal - Bill Carmell will recruit Y’s Men volunteers to drive seniors.

  2. Drive Y’s Men to meetings ~ John Weiss. We would like to encourage our members to carpool. In addition, John will recruit drivers and geopraphically match with those in need.   3. Meals on Wheels - Senior Center ~ John Weiss. NEEDED Two men needed for regular Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri 10 AM (90 minute) shift AND five (5) substitutes. Contact Yoshi or John.

  4. Stew’s Tues 6am pick-up to Senior Center, etc. ~ Lou Rolla, Larry Hirsch, Jay Dirnberger.

  1. Mentors Westport Schools ~ John Weiss, Jay Dirnberger. Jay had a successful multi-year mentee. Lauren Rosencranz is the key contact and heads the program. Must match their criteria.

  2. Mentor School Volunteer Association (SVA) ~ Sal Mollica. Tutors math and reading weekly. There are several availabilities similiar to  Sal’s “Beardsley Elementary School” in Bridgeport.      

  3. Mentor International Institute of Connecticut (ICONN) ~ Jay Dirnberger. Recent immigrants.

  4. Mentor Mercy Learning Center ~ Larry Hirsch, Bill Carmell, Marty Yellin. Weekly long term mentees.

  5. Mentor UJA Stamford ~ Norm Davis. What started as a reading help evolved into much more!            

  6. Y’s Men Meeting Crossing Guards ~ weekly show up at 8:15; place fence to block right turns coming in, move crossing sign, wear vests; ends @ 9:55. Our team: Bob Leng <>;,Bob Fox <>;, Stan Baron <>;, Martin Yellin <>;, Maury Wind <>;, Peter Nathan <>;, Bob Rosenkranz <>

Upcoming One - Day Projects:

  1. Westport Clean-Up Day, Baldwin lot, Saturday, April 29. Please come join us for coffee and donuts at 8:45. Work 9:30-10:30. Please bring your work shoes, gloves, rake or broom. We'll have garbage bags! Chuck Greenlee is out of the country. Maury Wind and Roy McKay have signed up.

  2. Library Book Sale - July 2017 - Suzy Hooper is contact. Chuck will pass board at May meetings.
