Welcome to the Ys Men Cycling Club! Our peloton consists of about a dozen Ys Men who enjoy cycling beginning in mid-April and lasting through the middle of November. We ride weekly on Tuesdays during the Ys Men year and switch to Thursdays once the Ys Men year ends at the end of May.

Generally, we do +/-20-mile loops between Longshore and Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk returning via Saugatuck Shores or Longshore and Sasco Beach in Fairfield sometimes with a variation that takes us via Greenfield Hill. Usually, we rendezvous for the week’s ride at the gravel parking lot (no beach sticker required) at Longshore at 9:30 AM.

The pace may vary among riders, but we regroup at the halfway mark. The routes are familiar and no Ys Man rider has ever gotten lost. A normal turnout is 4 or 5 cyclists, and a good showing is 8. Some ride road bikes and others hybrids. Often, we enjoy picnic lunches in the park adjacent to the E.R. Strait Marina after a Calf Pasture or Sasco Beach ride.

The highlight of our season is a 30-mile ride around Manhattan on the Greenway Waterfront Bike Path followed by a late patio-lunch in upper Manhattan. Other variations include a trip to the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail, a rails-to-trails route, followed by a picnic lunch at the Gouveia Winery in Wallingford or a tour of New Canaan and coastal Darien starting at Wavenly Park. Ideas for new rides are welcome.
I send out a weekly email blast to club members highlighting the weather outlook and asking who plans to cycle with the club that week.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact me by phone or email. We encourage new members join in the fun.
