The Global Issues Discussion Group is one of the most popular activities by the Y’s Men. We meet every other Monday throughout the year. The Group numbers about 50-60 members, many of whom have worked for companies dealing in international issues in addition to living and traveling extensively overseas. Their experience provides amazing insights into current affairs, politics, history and local culture.

We focus completely on international issues and topics, nothing domestic. Our topics focus on Global Issues such as: individual countries; countries within a specific region; trade partnerships; defense and trade alliances (NATO, G7, TPP), climate change, energy, racism, water scarcity, poverty, etc. Many of the participants engage actively in the discussions but most attend to keep informed.

At the end of each meeting we open the floor to topics that the group may want to discuss for the next meeting. We vote and agree which topic most members want to discuss in two weeks.

During the intervening two weeks many articles are circulated on the upcoming topic which help to educate and update us all.

Before the COVID-19 we would meet at the Westport Center for Senior Activities at 8:30 AM for a discussion lasting about one hour and fifteen minutes. Participation is open to all Y's Men (during the current pandemic, our meetings are held via ZOOM and begin at 9:30 AM).

There is no cost to belong to the Global Issues Discussion Group.

We welcome you to join the Global Issues Discussion Group. Just email me and I will add you to the membership. You will receive all our notifications/updates of our meetings and a Zoom link to join the discussion.
